Surgical Attire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-container-3 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-container-1 wp-block-column\">\n<h2>Surgical Attire<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5>General Considerations<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>   All institutions must have a policy regarding proper OR attire for perioperative personnel. Key considerations per ORNAC standards include: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>     All OR attire must be laundered by the health care organization or an approved contractor.   <\/li><li>     Scrub tops must be tucked into pants or fit closely to the body.   <\/li><li>     Warm-up jackets must be hospital supplied <a id=\"post-891-_Int_ZOl1syrX\"><\/a>and fastened. <a id=\"post-891-_Int_4nLKOalA\"><\/a>Personal items including clothing not covered by hospital-supplied scrubs, backpacks, bags, and sweaters should not be brought into the OR.   <\/li><li>     OR attire may not be worn outside of the facility.   <\/li><li>     OR attire must be changed at least daily or <a id=\"post-891-_Int_iqzPkHYI\"><\/a>whenever soiled.   <\/li><li>     Cloth hats must be laundered by the health care organization. Any hats that are not must be covered with a disposable hat.   <\/li><li>     Shoes must meet occupational health and safety regulations and should not be removed from the OR. Artificial nails can <a id=\"post-891-_Int_KyibAezz\"><\/a>harbour microorganisms, making donning PPE, and hand hygiene difficult.   <\/li><li>     Nail polish should not be worn because chipped or <a id=\"post-891-_Int_EsSqNZfE\"><\/a>peeling polish can<a id=\"post-891-_Int_WaTEkwQg\"><\/a> harbour microorganisms. Note that some institutions have differing policies.   <\/li><li>     All jewelry must be removed before entering the semi-restricted or restricted environment. This includes any jewelry that <a id=\"post-891-_Int_u48ZikmF\"><\/a>cannot be covered by OR attire such as watches, bracelets, rings, and earrings.   <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>   (ORNAC, 2021 &#8211; 2.7) <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5>Protective Eyewear<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  There are <a id=\"post-891-_Int_77FVCxjz\"><\/a>several types of protective eyewear that can be worn in the operating room. Please remember prescription glasses are not considered protective.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   Protective eyewear should be worn whenever there is a potential for <a id=\"post-891-_Int_Cg0eCGcz\"><\/a>splashing or spraying of any fluids. This includes bodily fluids as well as medications.
